In today’s post, I’m sharing something that has truly transformed my ability to stick to my wellness habits: my must-have habit tracker.
Why a Habit Tracker?
Over the years of my personal development journey, I’ve focused on building positive habits that support my wellness – things like meditation, journaling and daily exercise. The challenge, however, hasn’t been picking good habits. It’s been staying consistent with them.
We’ve all been there: You start off strong, completing the habits every day, but then life gets in the way. You miss a couple of days, think “What’s the point?” and then give up. Or maybe you feel like you don’t have enough time and don’t fully commit to your wellness habits. So, I decided to invest in a habit tracker that would help me stay accountable and motivated and the results have been incredible.
The Tracker That Changed Everything
At the end of 2023, I came across a customisable habit tracker spreadsheet. I loved the concept of it being a simple, digital tool that allowed me to set my daily habits and track them consistently.
This habit tracker has been the most effective tool I’ve ever used, especially considering I’ve tried bullet journaling, phone memos, physical lists and many other systems. While I used to go weeks without turning on my laptop, I now find myself opening it every single day, just to check off my habit tracker. It’s honestly the motivation of ticking that box that keeps me going!
What’s Included in the Habit Tracker?
This habit tracker is customisable, so you can add as many habits as you want, whether that’s 1 or 50. For me, I’ve currently set 8 wellness habits to track:
- Meditate and visualise
- Journal
- Read
- Walk 5,000 steps
- Self-care
- Take daily supplements
- Moisturise face and body
- Only have one sugary snack
Since I’ve started using this tracker in November 2023, I can say with confidence that it has helped me become much more consistent with my habits. For example, I’ve meditated and visualised every single day. I’ve read every day. I’ve had my daily supplements every day. And when it comes to sugary snacks, I’ve only had more than one on four days in January 2024 – huge progress for me, as I used to have 5-6 sugary snacks a day!
Additionally, journaling, which I’ve always loved, has become something I now do much more consistently. Before the tracker, I’d journal about 3-4 times a month, but now I’m doing it around 25 times a month. Sure, it’s not 100%, but the improvement is huge and that’s what matters most.
The Motivation Behind Tracking
One of the best features of the tracker is how it provides you with daily, weekly and monthly percentages. This feature is a huge motivator for me as each week, I want to do better than the week before. Each day, I want to improve. Seeing those percentages rise really pushes me to stay on track.
The tracker also shows your streaks, so you can see how many days in a row you’ve completed a habit and your longest streak. Trust me, you won’t want to break that streak!
But that’s not all, there’s also a reward system for 100% days. When you’ve completed all your habits for the day, the tracker turns from pink to green and you get to reward yourself. It’s a small, fun way to keep you motivated and add a little extra excitement to your daily routine.
How It’s Helped Me
Using this habit tracker has been a complete game changer. Not only has it helped me stay consistent with my wellness habits, but it’s also improved my mental and physical health. I’ve noticed positive changes in my mood, mindset and confidence. It’s truly transformed my overall well-being.
Beyond tracking daily habits, the spreadsheet also includes sections for setting yearly goals and creating weekly and monthly goals. This makes it easy to plan everything from your wellness habits to work deadlines or even household chores. There’s also a bill section, which is helpful if you manually pay your bills (though I personally don’t use it).
